From a December 11, 2025 report by Paul for AlternativeTo:
Brave has launched its experimental AI browsing feature in the Brave Nightly development channel. This release targets early adopters and invites user feedback to shape future improvements. While Brave’s long-term goal is to evolve the browser into an intelligent assistant that automates web tasks and enhances user productivity, the company stresses the need for caution in deploying agentic AI.
Firefox is my primary workstation web browser. I previously wrote about its own new “AI features” with some disapproval and discussed how to disable them. While Firefox is my main browser, I use Brave as a secondary browser, primarily for anime (Crunchyroll and HiDive) and for work (the Microsoft Teams suite). While I do not care for Brave’s current slate of crypto and AI features, I appreciate that they can be disabled (although it would be better if they could be removed entirely) and I think there is a fair case for recommending Brave for many common internet use-cases over Firefox (Firefox takes a bit more work to beat into a configuration that I like). But these new Brave developments strike me as concerning, specifically “Brave’s long-term goal is to evolve the browser into an intelligent assistant that automates web tasks and enhances user productivity.”
