I read a press release on PR Newswire about a game based on the Kaiju No. 8 series reaching 500,000 pre-registrations. I have no interest in the Kaiju No. 8 game (or any game which requires “pre-registration”), but this did remind me that I need to start watching the now-ongoing second season of the anime. The first season, which aired in 2024, was one of the last shows left out of my year-end top six and I gave it several awards when I tackled the Crunchyroll Anime Awards nominees (Kaiju did better here on my card since the Crunchyroll nominees tended to exclude my favorite shows). While I am loath to spoil my current best of anime in 2025 prospects, I will submit that the year has been weak thus far, so Kaiju may have a good chance to feature in my year-end review in a few months.
