Southwest Airlines is finally detailing how its new assigned seating policies will work. I do not fly often, but all of my flights dating back to 2016 have been on Southwest. I have always been in the “A” group for its soon-to-be-former choose-your-own-seat policy. I had good luck in May on a combined four flights between Laguardia and San Antonio, getting as high as the second row and no worse than fifth. I am not sure my luck will be quite as good with assigned seating given how much those seats may cost now. I am willing to compromise if they stop letting people bring giant suitcases onto the plane and throwing them into the overhead compartment.
